The Japanese automaker – Toyota – stated this week that they expect to be suffering a bit of a loss in their operations because of the decrease in their sales. Close to thrity minutes after the market had closed in Tokyo – Toyota said that they were preparing to lose around $1.5 to $1.7 billion through 2009.
The majority of automakers have been suffering due to the lack of sales in the United States as well as all around the world. Friday President Bush reassured them by giving them a loan of $13.4 billion to GM and Chrysler to help keep them away from bankruptcy.
Toyota said that their sales around the world for 2008 have declined 4% and that their exports have been hit the hardest. Another detriment to their sales was the increase in the value of the yen. This increase caused Japan’s trade deficit to shoot up to $2.5 billion in November.
